Community shop official opening this weekend!

This weekend, Saturday 6th March, sees the opening of the Community Shop at 11am - 1pm. Come along and join in and spend some money! You'll also be able to see the ideas for our new recreation field in the Parish Rooms, West End.

Race night nets almost £600 for field

I am very pleased to report the profit made from the race night held at the Golden Lion on Saturday was £595.77.

As promised, this will go entirely towards the effort to purchase the recreational field. It was an enjoyable evening.

My thanks go specifically to those who came, bought some tickets, had a bet or two and parted with their own hard earned cash in support of this. Thankyou.

Also to the Ashton Lions Football Club who, as promised, set up the event in the first place and supported the evening so enthusiastically.

To those who generously donated prizes. These were gratefully received and much appreciated.

To the management of the Golden Lion for their hospitality and generous support of the night in a number of ways.

We are a winner! - DECC has awarded us up to £0.5M

We are delighted to announce that the village, via our 'Ashton Hayes Going Carbon Neutral Project', has been selected as one of 20 Low Carbon Communities that will receive up to £500,000 to finance renewable energy systems for the village. We do not have final details of the award but more details can be found on the DECC Website or the Going Carbon Neutral website.

The official launch is on Monday in London and three representatives from Ashton Hayes will attend.

Race night, Saturday 20 Feb, support our field!

Ashton Football Club are holding a village fundraiser at the Golden Lion in February. The total proceeds of which will go towards the acquisition of the recreational field, something for all of us to enjoy for us living in the village.

The community shop officially takes over the premises at the village store today.

We hope you like the changes we are making. Please bear with us over the next few weeks as new suppliers are established and final display fittings are delivered.

Please come and visit your new store next week and tell us what you think! We are grateful for any suggestions you may have, or requests for items you think we should keep as this is your Community shop and its success is dependant on its use by Community members.

Remember - unless we use it we will loose it!

CWaC launches "Love Food Hate Waste" competition

Love Food Hate Waste

Invitation to enter the Food Lovers recipe competition.

Love Food Hate Waste is the Waste Not Want Not of the modern day, providing handy tips, advice and recipes for leftovers to help everyone waste less food.

Reducing food waste is a major issue and not just about good food going to waste. Wasting food costs the average family with children £680 a year and has serious environmental implications too

To celebrate the start of our local Love Food Hate Waste 2010 campaign, Cheshire West and Chester Council, in conjunction with Dee Radio and the Chester Chronicle, has launched a competition for Cheshire West and Chester residents to find the best recipes, made from food that you might find in the back of the cupboard or in the fridge.

We want you to send us your favourite recipe. It might, for example, include leftovers such as old pasta, unused bread or wilting fruit vegetables- providing a new lease of life as they are transformed into starters, mains or desserts.

COMMUNITY SHOP OPENS 25 JAN!

ASHTON HAYES AND MOULDSWORTH COMMUNITY SHOP will be open week commencing 25th January.
Please support your community shop by coming along to see what changes we have made!

NO REFUSE COLLECTIONS THIS WEEK

"Whilst the vast majority of major roads are now accessible, road and footway conditions, on minor roads, housing estates and in rural areas remain very poor and are making it impossible for refuse collection vehicles to operate safely.

Unfortunately there will be no further collections this week, so if you are able, we would ask that you take their bins and containers back on to your property.

We will assess the situation again on Monday. However, whilst the current conditions persist, it is likely that only a very limited service will be provided.

Next week, we would ask that you please continue to present your bins and containers on your scheduled collection day as normal. If no collection service is provided on that day, then please take your containers back on to your property and present them on your following scheduled collection day.

Once weather conditions improve and collections can be undertaken safely, it is our intention to resume refuse and dry recycling collections only. All green waste collections have been suspended until at least the end of January to enable resources to be redirected to domestic and recycling collections.

Residents that do not receive a collection are likely to have more waste and/or recycling than can be contained in their bins/containers and we will therefore, for the next few weeks, be collecting any materials placed at the side of bins as long as it is suitability contained.

Waste collection in the bad weather

As a result of the heavy snowfalls and severe weather conditions experienced across the district over the last few days, the authority’s waste collection services have been seriously disrupted. A limited service was provided in the Chester & District and Ellesmere Port & Neston areas on Tuesday, but no service has been provided today, Wednesday. In the Vale Royal area only a relative small number of households have been provided with a service on both days.
